Healing the ‘Holiday’ - The Work of Positive Mantras

Oh, the holidays… This can mean many different things to different people - some full of the warm fuzzy feelings we see in the movies, but for many the holidays are also full of feelings of obligation, family pressures, over-commitments, and lack of normal routines, travel stress etc.  These are all normal feelings, both the feel goods, and the less comfortable.  The goal is to figure out amidst the myriad of distractions, and duties that come with the holidays, how can we stay grounded and at peace, with the feeling and knowingness that we are enough just the way we are.

The feelings of joy, guilt, worry, anger and sadness can stress the lungs, spleen, liver and heart, and leave us feeling disoriented, disconnected from our bodies, bloated, fatigued, and even depressed.

Here are a few tools for working with Positive Mantras for maintaining a positive outlook and vibration through the holiday season and into the new year.

1. A positive mantra can be so helpful for reminding our minds and bodies to relax, breathe and appreciate the good things around.

2. A positive mantra can remind us to love and appreciate who we are and the present moment, and that we are worthy of love, space and that our needs are warranted.

3. A positive mantra can remind us that even though there are many things out of our control, we can control the love we give ourselves.

4. A positive mantra should have 3 positive, affirmative statements that relate to your current situation, struggle or worries.

An example would be:

I am enough, just as I am.

I can relax in this moment.

I can trust and love my body.

Wishing you all a peaceful holiday season, and Happy New Year!

Lots of light,

Brooke Niss, L.Ac.
