Universal Family Wellness Clinic is where ancient tradition meets modern science to form a complete system for identifying the root cause of illness and disease, and restoring balance in the body, and mind.

Chinese Medicine at Universal Family Wellness Clinic

Chinese medicine seeks to identify the root cause of illness by understanding that the body, mind and their environment are an interconnected, interdependent whole. Functional medicine seeks to identify the root cause of illness by understanding the story the body tells through blood chemistry analysis from a holistic perspective.

By using Functional blood chemistry analysis combined with our Chinese medical diagnosis and treatment, we are able to complete our individual diagnosis for each patient and to form a treatment plan that adjusts the body and mind toward sustainable balance, and lasting results.

Our practitioners at UFWC are extensively trained in both eastern and western medicines. This allows us to be able to effectively support both the straightforward and the most complex health concerns.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture at Universal Family Wellness Clinic LA

Originating in China, acupuncture is one of the most commonly used systems of medicine in the world. It is approximately 3,500 years old and involves the insertion of very fine needles into points along the network of channels called meridians. These meridians span the entire body and are understood as energetic highways. They conduct the bodies’ vital energy, stimulating electrical conductivity and movement of the bodies’ fluids, blood, and signaling the deepest systems and organs of the body to regain homeostasis.

One of the fundamental theories of acupuncture is that “where there is pain, there is stagnation.” Acupuncture moves stagnation and harmonizes imbalance.

At Universal Family Wellness Clinic, one of our licensed practitioners would assess your specific needs and health goals and develop a plan that fits both your goals, and your comfort level. Our practitioners have extensive training both in traditional Chinese medicine as well as bio-medical diagnostics. We utilize our diagnostic skills to always be sure that the patient is receiving the most appropriate and highest quality care.

Modern Science and Acupuncture

Physics

Today, physicists have shown that when a needle is inserted into an acupuncture point, connective tissue winds around the needle, which creates an electrical signal through the connective tissue and all the way to an organ, and/or other area of the body.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine at Universal Family Wellness Clinic LA

One of the unique characteristics of Chinese Herbal Medicine is how the herbs are used together in formula. Our formulas generally consist of 7-10 different herbs. The philosophy and science being that by decocting the herbs together, we actually create a whole that is bigger, and stronger and more effective than the sum of its parts.

The benefit of custom herbal formulas is that it allows our practitioners to treat your specific constitutions and symptoms, with no side effects and for minimal cost compared to pharmaceutical medications. Additionally, the use of Chinese herbal medicine is preventative in addition to being able to treat acute conditions, so after taking an herbal formula, your body is actually stronger, more resilient, and more in balance than before.

At Universal Family Wellness Clinic we use our extensive and ongoing studies and practice with ancient Chinese herbal formulation to design custom Chinese Herbal formulas for our patients. We have a single herb pharmacy of over 350 of the highest quality granule herbs. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs are complimentary therapies that can adjust the body chemistry for long-term effects. The first textbook of Chinese Botanical Medicine, Shen Nong Ben Cao Gang Mu, was documented 2000 years ago and continues to be foundational for pharmacological and botanical reference for Chinese Herbal Medicine and for our practice.

At UFWC, we prescribe herbs in several forms:

  1. Custom granule formula that is designed and suited just for your health concern

  2. Teapills are tiny herbal pills that are pre-formulated and easy to swallow

  3. Tablets are pre-formulated as well and come in different and unique formulas

Herb, Drug and Allergic Interaction

At Universal Family Wellness Clinic, our practitioners are trained in the most up to date research on herb/drug interactions and will also take into account how herbs we prescribe may interact with medications, herbs and supplements you are already taking and/or ingredients that your body may be sensitive or allergic to. This ensures that our prescriptions are the most safe and effective for your specific health concerns and constitution.

Bodywork & Tui Na

Nutrition

Nutrition Universal Family Wellness Clinic LA

Nutrition is the ultimate key to lasting health. From a Chinese medical perspective, Nutrition is called ‘Gu Qi’, this is the post-natal energy that we have control over. This includes both what we eat, as well as the psychology behind what we eat and how we eat it. Moving away from fad or yoyo dieting and living and moving into an empowered state of being where we can experience the ebbs and flows of our body and know how to respond to our needs and desires.

At Universal Family Wellness Clinic, we focus a lot on nutrition, using diet journals to help the patients document what they eat and drink each day. All our practitioners are extensively trained and personally experienced in integrating nutrition into our treatments, and discussions.

Additionally women’s busy lives leave little time for self-care, attention to healthy diet, and awareness of how to protect, prevent, and treat disease holistically. Chinese medicine sees a woman at every stage of her life as being of a unique constitution with specific needs to remain balanced. I seek to enhance women’s strengths and bring a sense of ease to difficult transitions with acupuncture, herbs, cranio-sacral, Chinese massage, and gardening therapies.
